Learn how to troubleshoot firmware update problems on VIVE Eagle AI smart glasses using the VIVE Connect app, including update requirements, connection issues, and recovery steps.
Firmware updates help keep VIVE Eagle up to date with the latest features, enhancements, and fixes. Updates are installed through the VIVE Connect app. If an update fails, does not appear, or will not complete, use the troubleshooting steps below.
Before you begin
To update VIVE Eagle successfully, make sure all update requirements are met:
- Your phone is connected to the internet.
- Bluetooth is turned on.
- Both your phone and VIVE Eagle have at least 20% battery remaining.
- Your phone is not connected to Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.
- VIVE Eagle is connected to the VIVE Connect app.
If you have not yet connected your glasses to VIVE Connect, connect them first and confirm that the connection is active before attempting an update.
The update option does not appear
If you do not see an available update:
- Confirm that VIVE Eagle is connected to VIVE Connect.
- Verify that your phone has an active internet connection.
- Close and relaunch VIVE Connect.
- Wait a few moments for the app to check for available updates.
When an update is available, a red badge appears next to Update in the Settings section of VIVE Connect.
The update download starts but does not finish
During the update process, VIVE Connect downloads the firmware package and transfers it to VIVE Eagle. This requires both internet access and a connection between the phone and the glasses.
If the download does not complete:
- Check that your phone remains connected to the internet.
- Confirm that battery levels are at least 20% on both devices.
- Keep the VIVE Connect app open during the update process.
- Retry the update from the Settings > Update screen.
VIVE Connect asks to join a VIVE Eagle Wi-Fi network
While installing an update, VIVE Connect may prompt you to connect to a VIVE Eagle Wi-Fi hotspot. This is expected behavior. The hotspot is used to transfer the firmware package to the glasses.
When prompted:
- Tap Allow.
- Tap Join.
- Wait for the installation to finish.
If you decline the connection request, the update cannot be transferred to the glasses.
The glasses are connected but updates still fail
If VIVE Eagle is connected to VIVE Connect but firmware updates, media imports, or feedback submissions do not work, adjust the connection preference settings:
- Open VIVE Connect.
- Confirm that your glasses are connected.
- Go to General > Advanced > Connection preference.
- Turn on Automatic band selection.
- If the issue continues, manually try 5 GHz or 2.4 GHz.
This setting can help resolve communication issues between the phone and the glasses during tasks that require data transfer, including firmware updates.
How to tell whether the firmware is updating
The VIVE Eagle status LED provides feedback during firmware installation.
If the status LED continuously blinks white and pink, the glasses are currently updating firmware. Do not power off the device or interrupt the update process while this indicator is active.
Restart the glasses and try again
If an update repeatedly fails:
- Turn the glasses off.
- Turn them back on.
- Reconnect them to VIVE Connect.
- Retry the firmware update.
Restarting can help recover from temporary connection or communication issues.
Last resort: Factory reset the glasses
If update problems persist and cannot be resolved through the previous steps, you can perform a factory reset.
Before performing a factory reset:
- Back up any data, photos, and videos you want to keep.
- Understand that a factory reset removes data stored on the glasses.
A factory reset returns the glasses to factory defaults while keeping the most recently installed firmware version.
After resetting, reconnect VIVE Eagle to VIVE Connect and check for updates again.
